Design of a novel compact neutron collimator

In this work the concept of a novel slow neutron collimator and way to operate it are presented. The idea is based on possibility decouple device field-of-view from its collimation power. A multi-channel geometry proposed consisting chess-board structure where highly neutron-absorbing channels alternated air channels. borated polymer was purposely developed produce attenuating components in form square-sectioned long rods. scalable multiple sectors can be arranged. geometrical parameter LD, corresponding ratio between length channel width, defines Several arranged one after other reach relevant powers. Each sector, 100 mm long, composed by several with D = 2.5 an L/D coefficient 40. target field view 50x50 mm2. This collimator, inside INFN-ANET collaboration, due intrinsic compactness, will great importance enhance imaging capability small medium-size sources.
